Swiss Army Man

This film was interesting from beginning to the very end of the film. I can say that throughout the whole film I was pretty confused and even more so with the whole ending of the film. Daniels did a good job creating a story from something so silly and far out there. I mean who gets the idea to use a corpse as a survival tool. This film was a weird yet beautiful mix of comedy, romance, and action. It really was a melting pot of genres combining all together.

I want to talk about the ending of the film in particular. Not only does Daniels leave us with an ending that at first leaves us to believe that the whole thing was made up and Hank was just some insane stalker who happened to find a corpse and make imaginary friends with it. However Daniels then reveals to the group of people on the shore who followed Hank that it was in fact all real as Manny ends up motor boating away into the ocean where he came from supposedly. The way this ends leaves the story up to interpretation for us the audience to speculate if the ending was real or if Hank was really just some insane person.

In my opinion I believe that it was real and I will give Hank the benefit of the doubt. Mainly because some of the stuff Hank did with Manny would not have been possible without his help. I also think the ending gives Hank a new perspective on living life. His time with Manny showed him he should not be afraid to be different and to act upon something he believes is impossible. I think at the end of the film he moves away from his love interest and finds a new purpose in life.
